The Sea - Faro
During the Summer of 2015 Sebastian and I camped wild on the Island of Faro, off the Swedish Island of Gotland, 3 hours boat ride into the Baltic Sea.
Towards the end of our time on the Island we camped on a huge flat rock on the edge of the sea. The sound of the waves accompanied us day and night, and we awoke to the sunrise across this crystalline sea every morning.
Just along from where we were was a white beach, where we bathed every morning and dined among the sand dunes. This painting is inspired by the view from this beach.
By the Door
This painting was inspired by a moment in Southern Spain. It was early evening in October and the golden light was flooding through the door.
I spent a lot of time working abroad and traveling during my life, particularly during my twenties. Much of this time I was primarily on my own. And in moments of solitude I became aware of a familiar view - that of my legs and feet. During these moments I often felt immense gratitude for my legs & feet for taking me where I was, and I began to see them as familiar friends, that were always there with me accompanying me on my journey. I often drew and paintied quick pictures of my legs and feet. I don't know where many of these are now, but this is one I came across in an old watercolour book. You can see my signature is upside down at the top because that was the angle from which I was painting
